So one of my classmates in Japanese class is from Australia and we were talking about me wanting to go there the other day and my reasons for visiting. Of course, one of my objectives is to try (strange) foods that are not readily available in New York, and one of them is kangaroo meat. It sounds bizarre, but why not? Just try it once and that'll be it. Unfortunately, she didn't have any, but she managed to bring a pack of crocodile jerky to Japan. How she did it, I have no clue, since transferring meat products between countries is technically not allowed.
So we opened the package during lunch break and I was the first to try. The smell was very pungent, and not very pleasant, and the taste was just about the same. The meat was very dry and the texture was like eating paper. The taste wasn't too good, either. I don't even know how to describe the taste. It's not like beef jerky nor chinese meat jerky. It was quite bland, but it was salty and with a hint of sour/tanginess (probably lemon). So in conclusion, would I eat it again? No. I only had one piece and that was enough for a lifetime.
On a brighter note: soondubu in a restaurant around my school. Decent, but not the best. I could do with more spice (and this was already 3 peppers (out of 5)). |
